What Are Casambi On/Off Controllers?
On/off controllers are wireless relay or switching modules that connect to the Casambi Bluetooth mesh network and control whether a load is energized or de-energized. Unlike dimmer modules (0-10V, DALI, PWM), they do not adjust brightness. Their role is binary: switching a circuit on or off based on commands from the Casambi app, a sensor trigger, a schedule, or a BMS integration.
Products in this category are designed for loads that do not support dimming, or for applications where a hard power cut is more appropriate than gradual dimming.
When to Use an On/Off Controller
On/off controllers are the right choice in the following situations:
Non-dimmable luminaires: Fluorescent or LED fixtures without a compatible dimming interface.
Auxiliary circuit switching: Fans, signage, display lighting, or any load that requires wireless on/off control but not dimming.
Hard power cut for energy saving: Cutting mains supply completely when a space is unoccupied, reducing standby draw to zero.
Relay output from a dimmer module: Some CBU modules include an SSR or relay output that feeds into this product type for mains switching.
Integration with the Casambi Ecosystem
On/off modules join the same Casambi mesh network as dimmer modules, sensors, and gateways. From the Casambi app, they can be grouped with other devices, included in scenes, scheduled, and triggered by occupancy or daylight sensors. Up to 250 nodes per network in Evolution mode.
For BMS integration, a Casambi Gateway connects the mesh network to building management systems over BACnet/IP or Modbus TCP, bringing on/off switching under centralized facility management.
